IT Support

How Much Does IT Support Cost for a Small Business in Australia?

Managed IT support in Australia is typically priced per user, per month. Here's what that actually buys you at different price points — and why the cheapest quote is sometimes the most expensive mistake.

The short answer

Most Australian businesses pay somewhere between $80 and $250 per user, per month for managed IT support, with the bulk of the market sitting around $120–$180. For a 10-person team, that's roughly $1,200–$1,800/month; for 20 people, $2,400–$3,600/month.

Be cautious below ~$100/user Providers quoting significantly under $100/user are usually excluding something important — typically security monitoring, backup, or after-hours support. Cheap IT support that doesn't include backup isn't a discount, it's a gamble.

What should be included

Essentials tier (~$100-140/user/month)

  • Business-hours help desk support
  • Microsoft 365 management (email, Teams, SharePoint)
  • Basic endpoint (device) protection

Business tier (~$150-200/user/month)

  • Everything in Essentials
  • Proactive monitoring — catching issues before they cause downtime
  • Cloud backup and multi-factor authentication
  • Regular technology reviews

Enterprise tier ($200+/user/month)

  • Everything in Business
  • After-hours and emergency support
  • Compliance support and strategic technology planning (vCIO)

Questions to ask before signing

  • Is backup included, or is it a separate line item?
  • What are the actual support hours, and what happens outside them?
  • Is multi-factor authentication included, or optional?
  • What's the average response time, in writing?

Our take

IT support pricing is one area where the cheapest option is rarely the cheapest in practice — a security incident or extended outage costs far more than the monthly difference between a $90/user quote and a $150/user one that actually includes backup and monitoring.
